The Doctor

Dr. Nicholas Knutson, D.C.

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Knutson was first introduced to Chiropractic Care while in high school, when a sore back prevented him from competing. After numerous failed attempts with muscle relaxers and pain pills his father scheduled an appointment with a local chiropractor. Thanks to natural Chiropractic care, Dr. Knutson was able to overcome his injury. That led him to choose chiropractic first in any medical situation if it was stress, headaches, fatigue, sprained ankles and so on through out his college career. He became increasingly aware that it was enhancing his athletic performance. Dr. Knutson became very passionate about a natural lifestyle and the safe healing effects of chiropractic care. After college, Dr. Knutson had the privilege of working at the University of Northern Iowa and assisting the strength and conditioning program. It was there that he got to mix with pro football players and they all had the same thing to say: without chiropractic care they wouldn’t have been on the field every Sunday.

Dr. Knutson attended the University of Northern Iowa where he graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and also became a certified USAW(Olympic weightlifting) coach. He then went to Davenport, Iowa where he graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2010. At the birthplace of chiropractic, Dr. Knutson learned about the importance of upper cervical care. After receiving his first NUCCA adjustment Dr Knutson was hooked; a gentle, specific chiropractic technique without any popping, twisting, or cracking. This gentle, non-invasive technique was developed more than forty years ago to create a radical new way of healing that can help restore body balance and perfect health. The focus of the NUCCA work is the relationship between the upper cervical spine (neck) and its influence on the central nervous system and brain stem function. It is this relationship that affects every aspect of human function from the feeling sensations in your fingers to regulating hormones, controlling movement, and providing the ability to hear, see, and think.

Dr. Knutson also studied the Pettibon technique and how important the curves of the spine are for the greater good of our health. He works with and has personally trained the Physical Therapist in our office to strengthen the spine using various unilateral isometric exercises. We use comprehensive rehabilitation program for the spine's hard and soft tissues. It uses x-rays for diagnosis, assessing progress, and proof of treatment effectiveness. It tests each patient's ability to respond to care, and trains patients in home care for faster correction. The System's use of specially developed weights and exercises directly acknowledges that lasting spinal correction is related to the strengthening of targeted muscles. Practitioners and patients alike are actively involved in the rehabilitation process, both in the clinic and at home.

Outside of the office Dr. Knutson enjoys spending time with his wife Abby, daughter Lindley, son Ellison, and their dog Lucia. He competes in numerous athletic events, 5ks, Crossfit (crossfitcharlotte.com), and Saturday morning basketball at the local church.
